As we embarked on our journey through the breathtaking Snaefellsnes Peninsula, we were eager to immerse ourselves in its natural beauty.
Our adventure began with a serene walk along the shell sand beach at the abandoned fishing village of Búðir. The beach was nestled within the vast expanse of the Búðahraun lava field, a surreal landscape that seemed almost otherworldly. The tranquility of the area, combined with the historic charm of the black church, Búðakirkja, made for a captivating start to our day.
After working up an appetite, we stopped for lunch at a quaint oceanfront cafe - Fjöruhúsið Café in Hellnar. The rustic setting and delicious seafood soup provided a perfect break from our explorations.
Next, we made our way to Arnarstapi, where the rugged shoreline revealed an array of fascinating rock formations. The air was filled with the sounds of thousands of nesting cliff birds, adding to the dramatic scenery. We spent some time exploring the caves and marveling at the unique geological features that lined the coast.
In the afternoon, we headed to Djúpalónssandur, a beach known for its haunting beauty. The pebbled shore was dotted with remnants of an old shipwreck and mysterious rock formations that rose from the sea. The atmosphere was both wild and serene, with the dramatic cliffs towering above us. We couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe as we walked along the beach, taking in the remnants of abandoned coastal farms that once thrived here.
After driving by Kirkjufell Mountain - one of the most photographed sites in Iceland, we then visited the Bjarnarhofn Museum and tried fermented shark
We returned to the Hotel Húsafell for another wonderful dinner.
