In 2018, Jennifer and I embarked on an incredible journey to Iceland with Smithsonian Journeys, accompanied by Dr. Scott Burns. Interestingly, Scott had been Jennifer’s professor during her time at the American College of Switzerland. When we learned about this geology-focused tour led by him, we eagerly signed up. The trip spanned ten days and was filled with geological exploration and discovery.
The group consisted of about 24 participants. We were guided by two experts: Dr. Scott Burns, the Smithsonian specialist, and Arngunnur Yr, a local expert with extensive knowledge of Iceland’s geology. The inclusion of a local guide added a unique perspective to the experience.
Our adventure began in Reykjavík, where we met our fellow travelers over breakfast at Kaffi Loki. From there, the journey unfolded into an unforgettable exploration of Iceland’s stunning geological features.
