Port - Reykjavík, Iceland
Excursion - Iceland's Golden Circle

Today, we embarked on an unforgettable journey through Iceland’s iconic Golden Circle, a route showcasing three of the country’s most celebrated natural wonders: Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall, and the Geysir geothermal area. Here’s a glimpse of our adventure:

Our day began with a scenic drive inland to
Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. This remarkable location is steeped in history and natural beauty. Walking through the rift valley, we marveled at the meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. We also explored the site of the Althing, Iceland’s ancient parliament established in 930 AD, and admired remnants of turf shelters once used during summer assemblies. The lush lava plain, dotted with moss and wildflowers, created a serene backdrop for this historic landmark.

Next, we journeyed south through fertile farmlands to
Gullfoss, Iceland’s “Golden Waterfall.” The Hvítá River plunges 96 feet in two dramatic cascades into a rugged canyon, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle. The mist rising from the falls caught the sunlight, forming rainbows that added to its magic. It was truly one of the most breathtaking sights of the day.

Our third stop was the
Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur Valley. Here, we witnessed Strokkur, Iceland’s most active geyser, erupting every few minutes with boiling water shooting up to 98 feet into the air. The bubbling mud pools and steaming vents were equally mesmerizing. Amid this geothermal wonderland, we enjoyed a buffet lunch featuring soups, salads, meats, and vegetables—a perfect way to recharge.

Finally, returning to Reykjavík, we visited
Perlan (The Pearl), a striking glass dome atop hot water storage tanks. Unfortunately it was closed so we were not able to enjoy the displays or the view of Reykjavík

This excursion offered a perfect blend of history, natural beauty, and Icelandic culture—a true highlight of our cruise!
