This morning, we ventured into the mesmerizing labyrinth of Hljóðaklettar, known as the “echoing rocks.” The unique spiral basalt formations created natural arches and canyons that felt almost otherworldly. From there, we continued to Ásbyrgi, a breathtaking horseshoe-shaped canyon enveloped by towering cliffs. At its heart stood “The Island,” a massive hoof-shaped rock surrounded by partially wooded terrain—an awe-inspiring sight steeped in both geological history and Norse mythology.
Later, in Húsavík, we embarked on an unforgettable bird-watching cruise, on the former fishing boat the Náttfari to Puffin Island. The sheer number of seabirds was astounding; we spotted puffins, black guillemots, fulmars, and Arctic terns. It was a seasonal spectacle that left us both in awe.
The combination of natural beauty and historical significance made it a perfect end to our day.
